Three Tips for Creating Your Marketing Strategy

One of the hardest things for a business owner is creating their marketing plan. It’s hard to view your company objectively when you are so emotionally tied in. However, no matter how great your product or service is, the world will never know unless you create a plan to get the word out. Creating a strategy isn’t hard, but it is definitely something that will take time. Here are three tips to get you started in the right direction.

  1. Start with your goal. What is it exactly that you want your marketing to do for you? Is it an increase in revenue? Do you want to increase your exposure? Or just simply get people to ask for information on your product? Whatever your goal may be, make sure it is realistic within the time frame given for your marketing plan (quarterly or annually). Sure everyone wants to make a cool million in their first year of business, but that may not be realistic for your company. Take time to really think about what is you want to obtain.
  2. Determine the tools needed to obtain the goals set. For some businesses, social media platforms are the best option for their marketing. For others, traditional print and radio may be the best media. The important thing to remember is to pick the top two to three tools. Anymore than that you may feel overwhelmed, frustrated and you may quit before your strategy can pick up steam. You could also dilute your message if you are pushing it out on every platform possible.
  3. Give your strategy time. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and your marketing strategy won’t work in a month. If you are going to run a creative campaign, make sure you give it enough time and attention so that you can get the right people involved. Realistically you need to expect six months to even a year before you see any real action from your efforts. This is why it is so important to set realistic goals.
